The latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report indicates a 0.2% increase in food prices for November, following a 0.3% uptick in October. Analyzing the components, the food at home index saw a 0.1% rise, with cereals and bakery products and nonalcoholic beverages both increasing by 0.5%. Other major grocery store groups experienced varying price changes, such as a 0.3% increase for fruits and vegetables and a 0.2% decrease for meats, poultry, fish, and eggs. Over the past year, the food at home index increased by 1.7%, with cereals and bakery products leading with a 3.4% rise, while dairy and related products decreased by 1.4%.
On the food away from home front, the index increased by 0.4% in November, consistent with the previous months of October and September. Full-service meals and limited service meals saw respective increases of 0.5% and 0.4%. Looking at the 12-month trend, the food away from home index rose by 5.3%, with full service meals increasing by 4.3% and limited service meals by 6.0%.
